Empowered Yoga and Lifestyle was created by Michele Theoret in order to introduce, yoga and self care as a means to tap into the infinite potential that exists at the core of all beings, changing the way you show up in your body and life. Our classes, programs, workshops and retreats offer a non dogmatic exploration of the mind body and spirit, combining: yoga, functional movement, meditation, psychology and life coaching.
Movement is medicine. Health and wellness programs that do not acknowledge movement as an essential component of wellness or that do not effectively integrate modern movement paradigms into their thousand-year old philosophies lack the empowering dialogue essential for transformation and evolution. Meditation is medicine, as it creates fertile space for the cultivation of potential, any health and fitness regime that does not include psychological health is incomplete. Food is medicine, any diet or prescription that neglects nourishment through whole foods as an essential component of healing is irresponsible and finally we are born from and interconnected with mother earth, she sustains us, nourishes us, and supports us. The recognition of our place in this miraculous universe: our roots, is the foundation for which health and wellness is born.-Michele Theoret
Michele Theoret BSc, M.S, Yoga Therapist, E-RYT-500 Creator, Director and Primary Facilitator at Empowered Yoga
Michele Theoret has been studying and teaching yoga and wellness for over 20 years. Michele completed her BSc in Exercise science in 2004 during this time she had the pleasure of working with many elite athletes as both a conditioning coach, personal trainer and yoga instructor, where she developed an understanding of injuries and movement. Michele also worked at a Naturopathic medicine clinic where she fell in love with holistic health, and has since completed her M.S Natural Health Sciences. Through working with people of all ages and abilities in various health and fitness modalities she has discovered that everybody is unique and healing can only happen though embracing this uniqueness.
Michele is passionate about combining the ancient traditions and philosophies of yoga with modern biomechanics, psychology and physiology. She has a “down to earth” practical and relevant approach that empowers individuals to transform the way they show up in their bodies and lives through education and experience. Michele is also a mother to 3 beautiful children and is inspired by their curiosity, resilience and creativity daily.
“During my study of exercise science I became obsessed with fitness and natural medicine. I started strength training, competing in kickboxing, exploring holistic nutrition and eventually fitness (bodybuilding). I began to believe in myself and create a vision for what was possible. This was the first time I was conscious of this power: Set an intention, set aside your preconceptions, excuses and fear, put both feet on the ground and move forward. From gymnastics to kickboxing, the stronger I got the more I believed in myself not only physically but this vigour also trickled into other areas of my life. In every challenge there is an opportunity for growth if you are open to it’s teaching.
Through this practice called yoga I have become more aware of the way I AM. What I have recognized is that the way I AM is not always the person that I want to be. We spend so much of our day unconscious on auto pilot that we lose the alignment between our vision, or desire and our actions. To me alignment=integrity. Alignment in yoga is not about creating geometric shapes rather it is about aligning your head, heart and actions. During my yoga practice I have ALIGNED myself over and over again as life continuously churns out new adventures.
Through yoga I have become more aware of my habit patterns, what triggers them and how they manifest in my body. Yoga is not all rainbows and roses and it is not a magic pill. I still lose my temper with my kids and I still fight with my husband, my body still suffers at times, but I get better with practice. Yoga strengthens the most important muscle of the human body: The awareness muscle. It takes tremendous discipline to sit with yourself; the good, the bad and the ugly. It takes tremendous strength to LET GO & FLOW. Being a wife, a mother of three, a teacher and mentor is no different. It takes tremendous courage to tell your truth, to own your shit and to be the change. My yoga mat is just a safe place for me to practice for the main event: Life
In my Yoga classes, workshops, courses and seminars I encourage students to SHOW UP & STEP TO THE EDGE. The classes are challenging, and fun, without challenge you can not grow, however the harder you are on yourself the faster you will breakdown. RADIATE LOVE. Through education of the anatomy and physiology of the body, I empower my students to practice smart and sensitively, honouring their miraculous bodies. Empowered Yoga and lifestyle, is about balance; challenging yourself sensitively; getting really quite, tapping into the bodies innate wisdom, shifting from a place of thinking to a realm of listening, feeling and knowing. Navigating from the heart vs the head. Motivated by LOVE vs FEAR. It is not about learning to stand on your hands its about learning to stand on your own two feet, strong in your center, grounded and resilient. Flexibility has little to do with wrapping your legs around your head and everything to do with wrapping yourself around whatever experience you are having. Alignment is not simply about where your limbs are in space. Alignment is the honest assessment of whether or not your actions match up with your head (vision) and heart (desire).

I am humbled and honoured that my life has flowed to this point, where I can share the practice of Yoga with others. By practicing (and teaching), I have learned to listen, I have become more aware, and I have learned how to respond and be flexible to whatever life throws at me. Yoga helps us to breathe easier, become comfortable in our skin, live more peacefully, and deepen our connection to spirit. Teaching Yoga is my ultimate source of joy. I teach Yoga because I LOVE Yoga and I wholeheartedly believe in it’s benefits body, mind and spirit. I began this journey in 2009 and I’ve never looked back. I am constantly telling people that making the decision to become a Yoga teacher has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I received my 200hr and 500hr certifications from Michele Theoret at Empowered Yoga. I am now incredibly excited to be a part of the Empowered Yoga team, where it all started for me. Practitioners can expect a powerful class, suited for all levels, with an emphasis on being true to yourself and gaining joy, not frustration, from your Yoga practice. “You must be still in the midst of activity, and be vibrantly alive in response.” Gandhi
Danielle has been teaching Yoga for over 8 years, and practicing for 15 years. She began practicing to compliment her training as a young athlete and upon retirement from the sport, to cope and thrive through battles with severe anxiety and depression. She is an E-RYT 500, Empowered Yoga Teacher Training Facilitator and lululemon ambassador. The message has evolved over years of practice, teaching and training but the intention is the same; to enrich and empower others through the practice of yoga so they may connect with the self. She hopes that through yoga students can find contentment, peace, acceptance. That they are perfectly imperfect and that is exactly as it should be.
Danielle sees her yoga practice as a safe space to prepare for life off the mat. In this controlled stress environment we can experiment, take chances, and learn to cultivate the abilities to nurture the self, body, mind, and spirit. Danielle believes that yoga should be accessible to all, in her classes you can expect modifications and variations for all levels of students. Danielle is a lover of all things flow so you can expect to see elements of Rocket Astanga, Vinyasa, and intelligent sequencing throughout, balanced with deep pranayama, intention, meditation and mantra. Danielle has a light heart, so come to class prepared to sweat, smile, listen to funky music and feel the depth of your breath.
Off the mat, you can find her snuggling her two beautiful girls, Issie and Molly, Laughing with her husband Tom. They love to explore anywhere and everywhere in their 1974 Boler.
